This is a fantastic Cabernet! Maybe the best current release cabernet I’ve had this year (so far). Sweet wood tannins well integrated, fresh red currants, and boysenberry. Great now, will age well for 20yr.

Oddly showing age, visually and on the palate. Drink now.

Venge Bone Ash is just so consistent. No corners or sharp edges to negotiate. Smooth and textured, displaying coffee, black fruits, moderate sweetness, and a tannic structure, which tilts beyond medium. Consumed across two days, and it behaved across both.

Sunday nite with my wife and soulmate. She chose one of her faves to compliment our dinner.. always a strong presentation, not as present as the 16 vintage. It’s extracted, but doesn’t display the poise and grace that we have become accustomed to with this bottling. Given the price, I won’t purchase more than the 3 bottles that I have.

Brilliant effort. We LOVE this stuff.
Displays depth, texture and sheer complexity. This will sail on for years.

Lost my original notes in the DL ether, so here I am again...
Lovely oak nose complimented with roses. Exotic dark fruits on the palate combine with cassis, forest floor and roasted coffee. Plush tannins mingle with moderate acidity. This is a truly brilliant example of a Cabernet.

So consistent, with purity of fruit. Displays a nice sense of place. Tannins are focused. Excellent oak treatment.
Renovation update - second staircase will go in tomorrow✌🏾

Anne-Marie’s 1K tasting on Delectable, so we decided to push the boat out with Venge.
It was also her birthday, and my daughter and her fiancé gifted her these cute unicorn slippers!
The wine is clean, precise and multi-layered. Roasted black fruits give way to graphite and soft brown sugar. The finish extends and expands on the palate. This is a beauty of a cab.

Follow up wine to our 07 Bartolo Mascarello on Friday night. Vacuum sealed and re-stored enough to write notes today as we had friends for dinner.

The nose reveals, floral, slightly creamy, candied with hints of stewed fruits; blackberries, blueberries, black plum, dark cherries, plum, boysenberries and dark cherries. There is a little smoke here but, if they named this wine and vineyard because their is ash on the nose and palate, it wouldn’t surprise me. Soft volcanic minerals, some anise, dark rich, turned earth, vanilla, cinnamon, hints if clove, dark spice, limestone, sweet tarriness, used leather, wood shavings, light peppery notes, light mintiness with dark red, fresh & withering dark floral and violets.

The body is full. The tannins are soft, round and velvety. The structure, tension, length and balance have hit a high point but, there is 8-10 years of life ahead. ripe; blackberries, blueberries, black plum, dark cherries, plum, boysenberries and dark cherries. Some smoke, cigar ash, soft volcanic minerals, some anise, dark rich, turned earth, vanilla, cinnamon, hints of clove, very dark spice with palate heat, limestone, dry crushed rocks, dry top soil, sweet tarriness, used leather, wood shavings, light peppery notes, light mintiness with dark red, fresh & withering dark floral and violets. The acidity is round and beautiful. The finish is rich, lush, ripe, well balanced and persists a very longtime.

Photos of, The Venge with Estate vines, inside their tasting room, Winemaker-Owner Kirk Venge and their Bone Ash Vineyard in late Winter or for us in CA, more like Springtime on a non rainy day.
