Varner
Los Alamos Vineyard Pinot Noir
Deliciously savory CA pinot noir. Fall leaves, smoky earth, dried flowers and gentle red fruits. Comes across old world for sure. Totally fascinating wine to watch evolve over a long meal. Cook up anything with portobello or porcini, or duck breasts.

1 person found it helpfulOct 6th, 2017Cool label. Classy. Looks translucent. Nose has rhubarb pie, wet loamy soils and a little streak of fresh beef. It’s fruit is there, but not intense. Flavor is savory and zingy. Hint of dried cherry and some green big leafed herbs. This is a good representation of the classy, fancy Pinot made famous via Sideways.

Jan 27th, 2023Rust red color. The color of well done steak on the inside. Hint of barns on the nose. Very earthy as well. Flavors are herbal. Teas and fresh. Chewy and dense in the mouth. A dynamic, zippy wine. Woodsy and fresh even 7-8 years aged.

Jan 27th, 2022What a wonderful find! Agree completely with AG’s review of this wine from 2016. So cool that it had held up over all these years. Applause to the Varner brothers (and team) for making such an old world wine in California. Reminds me of Pinot from Fixin.

Oct 5th, 2020So light. Not the kind of wine I normally drink but utterly and memorably delicious. (2014 vintage)

Really good... food friendly wine with tons of regional character and forest floor on the finish, and not over the top, the way some sb pinots are. Can’t think of a better Santa Barbara Pinot in the price range.

Apr 1st, 2018Vg Pinot for the price. Translucent ruby. Cranberry, red currant, cherry, strawberry, and just a smidgen of dried herbs. Sees 30% new French but can't taste a damn thing. Bright, great acid retention, and the most satiny tannins around
