Umani Ronchi
San Lorenzo Rosso Conero Red Blend
Not everything has to be special or transformative. Just be good and yummy. That’ll do. Medium garnet with a wide brim. 100% Montepulciano from the Marche region of Italy. The bouquet is particularly nice here. Woodsmoke and tobacco up front with plenty of herbs. So much herbal essence. The black cherries and plums are highlights.
It’s easy to classify this as just another pizza wine with a friendly price tag but it definitely does punch above its weight. Really nice focus and structure with fine acidity. The palate is terrific showcasing dry earth, stewed plums, and more cherries. Rustic but sophisticated. I most definitely will be revisiting.

I’ve been drinking a well-regarded Amaro fro le Marche lately, and the nose on this reminds me of that herb- infused smell. Also some smoke, tobacco, menthol, and a little barnyard funk . Lovely black fruit with some good tannins that blend in so well with food: on this case, homemade ricotta gnocchi, with homemade brasciole, homemade sausage ( homemade) tomato sauce, and garden greens from the deck. Feasting tonight. Such a soft, expressive wine. Rosso Conero is the finest expression of montepulciano
