Great Odin’s Raven! Every bottle of this high quality, yet entry level Two Hands Shiraz, gets better than the last!
No longer that familiar black-purple ink color, rather the bricking is now a fine garnet. I could smell this all day! Aromas of tar, creosote, black plum, stewed blackberries, and a high end of wildflowers. Tar, olive juice, dark fruits with a touch of citrus oil all wonderfully mixed. I certainly think the screwcap helped the longevity, but the balance of acidity and silken tannins did their parts well.

I like this bottle even more than in my April notes. Still accurate, but I note more game and olive notes this time around.

Jun 18th, 2018Fourteen years old and just terrific! This is Michael Twelftree’s Shiraz from the accessible picture series wines. The nose shows clean blue and red fruits overlaid by white pepper, paprika, and some sweet spice. The bright fruit carries to the palate. No jam here. Pure blueberry and red currants, powdery tannins, and and a fairly long finish. I remember this being inky black back in 2005-2006. Certainly tamer now, but the screw cap allowed this wine to age, integrate, and blossom into a terrific wine to pop and pour. You can find this for a song on some auction sites.

Opening up some old, high-rated Aussies, and this one has held up comparatively well. The tannins have softened and the fruit, while not vibrant, is still noticeable and somewhat pleasant. But a 15% alcohol Aussie Shiraz can’t be expected to exude real beauty at this age.
