Turley’s 2018 Napa Valley Petite Syrah is nearly black in the glass and has a plum and fig jam nose. It leads with dark fruit flavors balanced by graphite, a touch of oak and some smooth tannins. No sign of the 15% alcohol. It brightened over time in the glass. UPDATE 7/24: still a great intro to PS that is remarkably accessible young. It now offers some perfume on the nose and more reserved fruit.

Nov 23rd, 2022The 2019 Napa Petite Syrah is inky purple with a huge nose right out of the bottle. Smooth and low acid, it hits with cassis and dark cherry and is wonderfully peppery on the back end. The alcohol was running a bit hot on this youngster — I’d expect a year or two in bottle will make this excellent. And a real bargain on the price/quality/ready-to-drink continuum relative the the single vineyard PSs Turley puts out.
