Trapiche
Broquel Malbec
Mendoza, Cuyo, Argentina

Deep purple in color with a ruby/ brick rim.
Strong nose of blackberries, blackcurrants, sweet plums, oak, spices, barnyard, vegetables, herbs, graphite, dark chocolates, wet leaves, tobacco, earth and black pepper.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with plums, black currants, sweet cherries, wood, licorice, spices, earth, light vegetables, coffee herbs, vinaigrette, pencil lead and peppercorn.
Nice length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
This 5 year old Argentinian Malbec is drinking very nicely now. Well balanced with nice complexity and mouthfeel. Still showing enough fruits with some vegetable notes.
This will not last for a long time, so it's a good time to drink up.
Needs 90 minutes to open up properly, but good right out of the bottle too.
I paired it with cheeses, nuts and crackers.
90 points wine Spectator.
100% Malbec grapes. Aged for 15 months in oak barrels.
14.5% alcohol by volume.
88 points.
$16.

The thing I hate about airports is the lack of any decent wine. Even being free this was ho-hum and like gnawing on bark. Tannic, oaky, fruit is in the background.

Like oak? This Malbec is for you. Super oak nuances are highlighted by brambly fruits and solid, gripping tannins. Nice long finish with a touch of vanilla.

Great nose. No follow through. Diluted fruit and no finish. This is the second bottle of the '11 vintage I have had--same result.

Rating this a little higher because I am having delicious blue cheese that is pairing very well with it. A bit light for a Malbec, but holding up well with blue.
