From the Lombardy region of northern Italy, this is made by the wollersheim winery winemaker phillipe's younger brother Jean-Francois Coquard. Fantastic and approachable table wine. It goes great with good, particularly fatty, red meat. The beets are very present in both smell and taste. Notes from the maker: full-bodies red with aromas reminiscent of eucalyptus, red beets, little berries and notes of almond on the finish. Made from their estate-grown Italian Bonarda grape.

Picked this up at the Wollersheim winery in Prairie du Sac, WI. Grown and vinified in Italy, the winemaker is the younger brother of the Wollersheim winemaker. Interesting and approachable, a bargain at just $11 a bottle (with further returns given when you get to drink this on the Wollersheim patio area on a lovely day, as I did).
