Etna Rosso Nerello Cappuccio - Nerello Mascalese Blend
Lightness, not to be confused with either elegance or vapidity, but rather a state of mind. With Sicilian cuisine, one prefers to have the food lead and the wine follow (albeit closely).
Brilliant crunchy red fruit, mineral-palooza, spice, and some pencil lead gripping the tongue but not too sharply. Pass the Arancini per favore!

Out of the "cellar", the nose literally smelled like ......NOTHING. Let it warm up a bit. Leaning VERY savory. Very translucent. Dusty tannins are pronounced in the Zalto Burg, better in the Riedel AP. Best in the Riedel monster Burg. Starting to become drinkable with time and warmer temp. Dusty red fruit but mostly brush, herbs. Disappointing. 13.5% WF.

Sep 19th, 2020Nebbiolo is a varietal I have rarely had. This one is from Sicily. It is gorgeous gemstone red in the glass, a beautiful transparent dark red. It smells of pepper, thyme and cherries. It looks so much like Pinot Noir that that is the taste one would expect. But Nebbiolo ain’t no Pinot! This wine tastes of cherries with fresh juicy acidity but then takes one on a direct journey to tannin land. Not velvety tannin but clean crisp tannins. A unique repeatable experience.
