Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend
The 2018 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is darkly alluring, with a sweetly scented bouquet that blends medicinal cherries with sage, dried roses and baking chocolate. This is surprisingly juicy and lifted in feel, with zesty acidity motivating depths of ripe wild berry fruits as sweet spices collect toward the close. It finishes gently tannic, with a cranberry crunch that adds a lovely punctuation. (Eric Guido, Vinous, February 2024)

For my 2500th review on #vivino, here is a wonderful Italian gem.
Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish /brick rim.
Nice nose of blackberries, blueberries, black currant, black plums, raspberries, earth, forest floor, smoke, vanilla, licorice, cloves, herbs, spices, dark coffee, pencil lead, vegetables, vinaigrette and black pepper.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity, long legs, smooth and velvety.
Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, strawberries, currants, vanilla, wood, spices, peppercorn, green herbs, vegetables, spices, tobacco, herbs and peppercorn.
Long finish with soft tannins and black pepper.
This 18 year old Amarone, is drinking very nicely now. Still enjoyable all by itself or with food. Nicely balanced with lots of vegetable notes. Spicy and complex with a velvety mouthfeel.
Good right out of the bottle, and better as it opens up (60 minutes). This will not last for long, so if you have any, drink now.
Thank you Michael, for sharing this delicious wine with me.
I paired it with a charcuterie board of Meats and cheeses.
15.5% alcohol by volume.

Oct 9th, 2017Perhaps one of the best Amarones I have tasted. 2008 vintage. Perfect texture, lovely fruit and an intense nose with some chocolate and a touch of Indian spice.

Apr 4th, 2016Really nice example of a high alcohol wine being completely balanced by fruit, acid and earth. 17% abv, lots of raisinated plum, quinine, balsamic, and savory herb. Quite delicious, almost a shame it's not colder outside.
