Dark purple with color to the rim. Big nose of plum and elderberry compote in an oak bowl. Echoed on the full-bodied palate supported by juicy medium acidity and non-threatening medium minus tannins. Surprisingly smooth despite the 15.2% alcohol. Probably the best thing Prisoner Wine Company makes. A burly California style Merlot with enough finesse for fine meals but still sippable (over time… again 15.2% 😏) enough for casual wine and cheese evenings. Drink now through 2028, but don't expect much development.

Drinking in 2024. Classic merlot big welcoming burst of plum fruit on the nose, but astringent even after letting sit an hour. Not subtle in the least. Probably the 15.2% alcohol

Had this for Thanksgiving, and it’s the second time the bottle has tasted astringent and off-putting, yet not corked. Last time was Thanksgiving 2021. Disappointing. I’m giving up on Thorn. Maybe there’s a reason for no new vintages.
