Tons of complexity with an exaggerated amount of life yet remains silky and seamless. Layer upon layer of flavors and aromas evolving with more air. Exciting to see where this will go in the next 7-15 years. Love this. Will definitely get better with time but hard to understand how.

Nov 1st, 2023Exceptionally well-done. This actually has some notes of the Kobayashi I drank recently, although this had more alcohol. The wine had some smooth, grippy tannins (more than I recall from last time) — maybe I didn’t stand the bottle upright early enough (the winemaker calls for one week). I didn’t observe that. This wine gets better with air, winemaker calls for three hours. Best drunk cool. This is 63% petite syrah, 22.1% mourvèdre, 11.5% graciano and 3.4% viognier. 16.0% ABV, 98 points Robert Parker. $250.

I really enjoyed this wine. It’s massive — 16.0% — but not gauche. It’s smooth, low tannin even though young, it is fruity up front but surprisingly dry in the back. It’s wild, with intense flavors (pepper? Even though it’s mourvedre?), lower residual sugar than I expected. The winery recommends the bottle to be upright for a week followed by a 3-4 hour decant. I honored the decant but not the upright. I used a filter but the sediment seemed extremely low. Delightful. $250.
