The Hess Collection
North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon
North Coast, California, USA
Aromas of red and black fruit with hints of sweet spice. On the palate cherry and raspberry flavors with cacao, vanilla and oak. This wine has about 11% Petite Sirah added giving a great mouthfeel on fine tannins, medium finish ending with vanilla oak character. Nice value! Tasting Sample.

Blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Petite Sirah and 6% Malbec, deep Ruby red color with aromas of dark berry fruit aromas and herb cedar notes. On the palate flavors of ripe blackberry and plum flavors with oak, pepper and some hints of smoky herbal spice. Ok balance, fine tannins, medium finish ending with fruit and spicy oak character.

Not bad a cab when a feeling of disappointment is what was expected. I have found, that with most $15-$20 red wines, the uncomplicated, sweetish vanilla and spice characteristic is what one must prepare himself for, but, if, as a result of fearing being let down, you lower your expectations, Bam!: Magic will happen about 20% of the time!
Its like the wine buyer's version of "Under-promise and over-deliver"

Exactly what it purports to be: solid table wine. Medium bodied, nice plum, berry notes. Satisfying cab that doesn't make you try too hard.
