The Pey Family Napa Valley Merlot

Dark Ruby color with dark berry fruit and herb spice aromas, blended with a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon. On the palate flavors of plum, cherry and dried herbs with leather, cacao and espresso notes. Fine tannins, medium+ finish spicy ending, good now.

Best Merlot was never ripped out, so natural selection of best sites.
Fleshy red fruits with balsamic retronasal.
Fine tea like tannin

For me this was a disappointing Merlot. Very bitter tannins took over the palate. I am not getting any fruity or floral notes. I don’t mind tannins at all but there was no smoothness. Jut a long bitter finish. The cork seems fine but I may have a bad bottle I can’t finish my glass.

Finally a Napa wine! Been a while.

Really have to agree with the wine title- this seemed “textbook” Merlot. Yes, there were some dark berry flavors, strong spices and modest tannins for a young wine. Another bottle in my search to find my wife a plethora of good merlots. This will stay on our list of must drinks.
