Feb 7th, 2024Purple robe. Lithe and silky texture. Purple and red fruit. Perfumed. Violets, dried apricots, a whiff of smoke and jerky on the nose that is sweet and praline-like with cocoa notes. Bone dry and elegant on the palate. Well judged acid and tannins. Real keeper.

At the Toowoomba Wine Show Judges Dinner last Saturday night. No notes but this was a good Carignan from Priorat where the prices for some of the iconic Garnachas from the likes of Palacios are thru the roof. This is more affordable.

Amazing Carignan. Dark fruited, layers of woodsy earthy notes, leather, and distinctly mineral framework throughout. Quite elegant, fresh, and lengthy, very infused and refined. Lovely example of hands off winemaking and great terroir.

This nose has a pronounced intensity of ripe black fruits (black currants, black plums) dark chocolate, herbal and intense minerality. The palate is beautiful with well integrated and complex notes of black fruits, (blackberries, black plum skin) clove spice, savory spice, bittersweet dark chocolate, smoke, and granite. The minerality in this wine is amazing. It hits in all the right places and adds depth of this full body wine.

Big time complexity here. Lots of piña colada like fruit but then pepper and spice too. Somehow fresh, austere, ripe, and spicy at the same time but different every time you look.
