Whalebone Vineyard Cabernet-Shiraz Blend

Colour is a mid to dark Ruby. Over riding minty aromas with herbal notes. Palate is a little astringent - under ripe grapes? Was expecting more from this wine at 10 years of age. Will be interested to see how my remaining 2 bottles develop but concerned about the lack of cassis fruit for a wine that is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Shiraz.

This is not my bag by a long shot but credit given when credit is due.

Exquisite, classy oak. Fruit gradually appears from it. Polished, fine tannin structure.

Too much fruit

Stewed fruit, dried fruit and menthol. Intense and a little abrasive. Concentrated, but perhaps a little out of balance. Surprisingly not the star we thought it might be.

Gorgeous stuff but too tired to properly appreciate it!

Moderate sense on the nose. A bit smoky. It tasted peppery yet not spicy. Good balance. Shame it was light and short.

Dark and dusty, blackberry and cocoa. Understated and elegant.

Gorgeous, elegant medium-bodied blend. Just starting to drink really nicely, the cabernet still tight and oak settling into place. The shiraz component fills things out beautifully, staying in the background. Still years ahead of it. Worked nicely with osso buco.
