Have you ever noticed the colour of wine made from Pinot Gris?

It typically has a slightly pink/copper hue to it in the glass. This is because the fruit on the vine is actually a bit more coloured than your typical white wine grape, sometimes Pinot Gris is a bit pinky or even purple-grey.

I recently sipped this new release 2022 Tahbilk and the photo really doesn’t do the pretty pink-hold blush colour justice.

It retails for about $19 a bottle and I found it super refreshing and enjoyable.

Think juicy fruits, candied lemon and a bit of musk and florals. To be it had a slight viscous mouthfeel to it and a lingering finish. Plus some good crunchy acidity.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

Pinot Gris is extremely popular in NZ compared to Aussie I’ve noticed. If you compare the PG section in an NZ supermarket (oh the normality of getting vino and food in the one shop 🛒) to an Aussie one, the latter is well smaller.

Personally I love a good Pinot Gris and there are some stunning Australian made ones. It is a white wine grape however the fruit is a greyish-pink colour which is why ‘Gris’ translates to ‘Grey’.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❗️Did you know... Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio are the same grape 🍇 variety? The different names refer to the different styles of wine this grape variety can be crafted into. Google it for more info.

This Tahbilk 2018 Pinot Gris from Nagambie Lakes, Central Victoria has just been released. It’s the second vintage of this wine and is drinking very well. Tahbilk expect it to be enjoyed from now until 2021. Here’s what I thought..
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Bronze-y silver-grey colour in the glass. The nose had a hint of fresh peaches 🍑, minerality and sweet honey blossoms. While in the mouth it has a voluptuous flavour yet is delicate and has a wonderful citrus-driven freshness. $21.50

Many thanks to FireWorks PR for sending this tasty treat over for us to try 😘
