Nose is cranberry, mint, minerals, powdery effect, wet earth, dead leaves. Really developed and complex. Palate is lacey and so elegant. Limpid and ethereal. Nimble and racy with great energy and tangy cherry and cranberry fruit. Finishes wish energy, acid and mineral and lingering sour cherry. Great wine!

Jan 22nd, 2023Stunning nose. Ripe but nimble and elegant. Wow. Tangy red cherries and darker black cherrie. Minerals up the wazoo. Incredibly fragrant. Stunningly purity to the fruit and so vivid. Wow what a palate. This is so elegant, so juicy and so nimble. Amazing purity. Sven has taken the leap. This is so damn impressive. Red Riesling to the max! Such fine tannins that are sweet and ripe. Dazzling purity and freshness. Cuts like a knife. Such perfect balance. Easy 9.5. Reminds me of 2010 or 1999 red burgs. Unreal freshness and just perfect clarity of fruit. Wow. This will be a 9.6 with air.

Beautifully ripe. Fresh and confectionary; caramel and red fruit. Pomegranate molasses. I’m realizing after about an hour that this is some of the most deftly used oak in recent memory. So subtle I almost didn’t notice. Succulent and delightful. Stunning.

Jun 29th, 2022This is 2018 in a 2017 bottle. Finally. This is as advertised as Sven was going crazy over this wine. Well, as much as a reserved German guy can go crazy. Stunning nose. Just bananas great. Deep red and black cherry and just perfect ripeness. Heavenly spices and unreal depth and refinement. That’s what makes this special. The refinement. This nose is a 9.6. Easy. So nimble and spicey. It’s so layered. Unreal black and red cherry. Just sick! Since 2014 he has improved so much with his Pinot. Wow, so lush and suave on the palate with such freshness and purity. Also the appropriate amount of leanness. Rich but nimble and so focused. Nose keeps getting more expansive and more complex. Nose gets licorice and cherry flower with air. Also cherry pastille. So juicy and with terrific structure. Elegant and velvety tannins and really has structure to burn. This will age gloriously. Terrific inner mouth aromas. But I can tell this needs an hour to really shine. And it will.

Palate has ripe black cherry, sweet earthy traits, dry minerals, ripe blackberry with medium finish. Very smooth but seems to be short of depth, not fully representative of prior bottles. Hopefully this just needs more time to come back together.
Decanted ~3h, paired to grilled pork tenderloin with grilled baby fennel and apples, a soild dinner companion.

Juicy and clean with amazingly vibrant, lush and tangy fruit. All mid to late season cherries. Stunning. Amazing mouthfeel and sweetness. Such sap and nerve. So elegant but also deep and structured. Clean and fresh and so so balanced. This is stupid great. Long energetic and very linear finish. This will improve with air but on the p and p it’s insane. Unreal texture. This is so good!

Palate is sweet, crunchy, sappy and sumptuous. Velvety tannins and terrific freshness and cut. Sweet fruit and long. Mineral accented finish. Really nice fruit sap on the Finish. This needs air tho. I’ll be back. Picking up weight, tannins, sap and sweetness. So good

Apr 30th, 2020The first Klundt Pinot where I thought he had Pinot talent but wasn’t quite there yet. Fascinating wine. Nose is all forest floor, shrubs and tree bark with some mid season and sour cherry fruit. A charmingly rustic nose. Palate is ripe and elegant but has a tiny barely noticeable prickle of heat. The fruit is deep and luscious and has amazing texture and sweetness. The fruit is what convinced me. The length and the sap. This is best showing yet. Ripe and juicy tannins. Lovely persistence. Terrific structure.

Very perfumy nose has cherry-plum fruit, loads of crushed rock minerality, and pine forest underbrush. Bright and full of limestoney notes in the mouth, it’s got high-toned cherry fruit and very nice length in the savory finish. Great acids and still some very fine-grained tannin. Reminds me a little of high-end Pinots from the cool Santa Cruz area.

Oct 26th, 2019Stunning showing. Insanely complex perfume of a nose. Spice, sweet cherry fruit, black tea, so complex and alluring. Palate is sweet, silky and so textured. Remarkable ripeness and sweetness. So dazzlingly pure and an almost gossamer silken like finish. Remarkable.
