Studio Seven Fifty
Julien Fayard SBR Vineyard Merlot
It's time for a good Merlot on this #MerlotThursday.
Inky in color with a very short purple rim.
On the nose black plums, cooked cherries, light oak, spices, earth, dark chocolates, coffee, tar, light vegetables, light barnyard and black pepper.
Full bodied, bold and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, black currants, cooked plums, dried figs, tobacco leaf, spices, graphite, herbs, light toasted cedar, vanilla, leather, chocolates, light caramel and peppercorn.
Long finish with round tannins and raspberries.
This is a delicious Merlot from Napa Valley. Spicy, and feels like a Merlot with a Syrah feel. Interesting stuff.
Showing nice complexity with a soft mouthfeel.
This 7 year old from a Single Vineyard is peaking now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 years.
Good right out of the bottle, and much better after 2 hours of airtime, when more structure comes in.
Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. I paired it with a truffle pizza.
A tiny production of less than 800 bottles.
15.4% alcohol by volume.
92 points.
$60.

So we drank the whole bottle before I could write any notes. And that should speak volumes. Delicious. I know it's cliché, but this really is a cab lover's Merlot. For realz (as my niece would say).
