Stones & Bones
Red Blend
Sharper than expected with a smooth finish and aftertaste. Mild on the nose. Hint of bitter melon earthiness yet silky flow, if that even makes sense. Definitely rich and creamy :-)

My brother wants to go to Portugal for a year and if it’s because of their wine sign me up! Grape varietals that I definitely need to learn about. A nice wine to end my week off. Back to work tomorrow.

Frankly I think the 30% Syrah in the blend helps to tone this wine down a bit and smooth off its rough edges. Once this wine opens up — I.e. you need to give it an hour to unclench it’s angry little fist — it’s very drinkable. The Syrah creates a smooth tannic substrate against which all the jarring notes of Portuguese grapes play. This is a Charlie Bird Parker sort of wine. Lots of mineral high notes against slightly off-key low notes, But it will reward the adventurous palate with a fun up-and-down roller coaster ride.
