St. Supéry Estate Vineyards
Dollarhide Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon
Popped and poured; no formal notes. This 2001 St. Supery “Dollarhide” was enjoyed alongside a 2005 Beaulieu Vineyard “Georges De Latour” and a 2006 Chappellet “Pritchard Hill” Cabernet Sauvignon. All three were well stored examples from the same cellar. A vinous wine. The St. Supery has aged beautifully. The black and red fruits are still present but beginning to take on a more dessicated character. Leather, pipe tobacco, earth and baking spices are all accounted for. Tannins all but completely integrated at this point. Finish is long and satisfying. Drink now but this won’t fall off a cliff in the next five years either.

Pronounced red fruit (raspberry) and black fruits (blackberry and bramble) sweet attack on the palate. Supple tannins. The 2015, however was stemmy and already showing oxidation (black olives) and the tannins were chewy and stalky. 2016 way to go. Too much vintage variation here...seems like two different things

Jan 1st, 2019Bottle number two of the night. Don’t think I’ve ever had anything from St Suprey, though I’ve seen their bottles around/passed by the winery. Dark chocolate covered strawberries and nutmeg on the nose, also some smoke. The palate was smooth, but not overly complex. Cherry liqueur, blackberry pie on the finish. A nice wine, but not sure it’s worth the $100 price tag.

Apr 30th, 2016Oh wow. What a beautiful surprise. Dark chocolate and smokey rich with bright blue fruit. Lot of fruit on the nose but with this incredible substance behind it.
