St. Clement Vineyards
Steinhauer Ranch Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
For a 2009 Howell Mountain Cab from Steinhauer Ranch, I expected more. The last bottle of this wine was bigger, dense, more "in your face" blackberry and blueberry cassis with some complexity. This one lacked in this department. The front still had black and blueberry influences, but not as intense and seemed be a little bit red influenced now. Middle is where fig and date notes kick in. Rather simplistic. Finishes with well integrated and soft tannin. Worthy of 90, but barely.

Jan 17th, 2017Chocolate and cinnamon on the nose. Tart cranberry upfront but then mellows into vanilla with a butterscotch like creaminess. It's got a nice little spice finish

Nov 2nd, 20162004 was amazing, full of lush deep fruit flavors, bold and incredible tannin structure.

Jun 27th, 2016On the nose, this Howell Mountain beauty has chocolate, spice and mint accents on a core of red and black fruit. The flavors are the same/similar, and the tannins are well-integrated and balanced perfectly with acid, fruit and alc (13.5% abv). Full-bodied with a great, silky texture. The finish is long and dry, with notes of chalk and raspberries. An awesome bottle, drinking well now but this wine will also age well.

May 30th, 2016I got juicy cherry and vanilla right away at the start. Smooth velvety texture. The palate definitely has cherry, oak and a spicy complexity that switches the vanilla to chocolate? The nice tannin structure leads to a long and excellent finish. I have to say I really enjoyed this wine. I'm not sure how I got the bottle, but I think it was a gift. If you get it at $60, I think a great bottle. I tried to find write-ups on the web, but found info scattered and not helpful. Really enjoyed his wine. Great New Year's Day surprise--paired with a rib eye.
