A 1.5 hour decant probably should have gone longer(fine/cloudy sediment). A sensational inky dark garnet color. On the nose: perfumed notes of dark cherry, creme brulee, cinnamon, wet forest floor, minty tea. Taste: velvety and smooth mouth coating wine with Brambly blackberry, graphite, herbaceous, mocha, and a spicy glycerin cedar finish. YUM! The family reserve gets an extra 12 months in barrel versus the Private Reserve. This Oakville fruit wine has more time to go and glad I have a few more bottles.

@Delectable Wine this is the 2016 Family Reserve but not Ashe.

The 2016 Spoto Family Reserve is packed with power and youthful exuberance. I was honored to be able to give this one a drive today. This wine was popped and sampled, slow-oxed for 6 hours, and then decanted for another 2 hours. This definitely woke up this monster and got it going. This is a red-fruit dominant, full-bodied behemoth that will stay for 20 years in your cellar. Lighter violet pour with a clear meniscus. The nose of this wine is amazing, and the poured sample really wasn't tasted for 2-3 hours because I kept coming back to the nose on this wine. Smells like a pastry shop around the holidays and has a touch of a wildflower garden if you huff this one long enough. Tne entry of this wine is dominanted by black cherry, red currants, red licorice, bing cherries, red-hot spices, cinnamon, hint of fig. Very bright acidity and loaded with tons of power throughout. Finishes with young oak, stiff but punchy tannic character, tapping you on the shoulder and saying "Yeah, I'm this good now, but you should come back to the others you bought in a few years." This wine is dressed to impress. Rating: 98+

A family reserve 2004 Cabernet. What a treat from the Spoto Family Library! Purplish red ruby color. The nose has an initial cream brûlée scent, then bursts with black fruit, green veggie, earthy spices. Taste—definite blackberry fruit, tobacco smoke , chocolate and spices linger. Medium, but sweet tannins and velvety smooth in the mouth with a long finish. Could age more as the overall taste is still fresh for being 15 years old.

Double decant (decent chunky sediment) and pour. A splendiforous dark purple color, with the start of some bricking on the edge. On the nose: creme brulee, black fruit, green veggie, earthy. Taste: blackberry, smoke, pepper, chocolate, sweet but still there tannins and decent acidity keep it fresh....a velvety dense wine that goes long....believe the Family Reserve cab gets a longer time in the barrel than the Reserve cab.
