Spier
Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon
Another good Spier wine. Complex cab.

The palate consists of stewed sweet cherries, blackberries, tar, leather, and pipe tobacco. A great balance between old world rusticity and new world hedonism - once again proving that Spier does not know how to make a bad wine.
100% Cabernet, 50% new French oak, for 18 months.

Spier Cab Sav. From the established, albeit too touristy and commercialised Spier farm. Absolutely brilliant. From the Private Collection. Vintage 2015. Arguably one if the best products from the Spier stable.

Aug 29th, 2018A bit harsh, especially for a "private collection" label. Opened the bottle, had a glass, and then set it aside for a couple of days. More interesting now - ink, graphite, lead, pencil shavings, dark fruit and black earth on the nose - but still a bit harsh and too one dimensional on the palette (surprisingly earthy for a new world Cab). This one really needs to spend some more time in the bottle (currently not living up to the $25 price tag).
