Last weekend I had the chance to open up the 2012 Col Solare Red Wine (WWB, 94) which is absolutely singing in its silky state now at the eight year mark. Following a two hour decant the wine showed marvelous graphite, and anise aromas, followed by tones of tar and milk chocolate that all melded brilliantly in the glass. The palate showed really good viscosity and depth with a pillowy texture. Brandy soaked cherries, pipe tobacco, blackberry compote and cocoa powder with sagebrush accents all collide on the palate. The long, dark fruit and mineral-driven finish completes this stunning wine. A long-ager, showing a good combination of weight and poise, this glorious Col Solare is truly hitting its stride and has another decade of life ahead of it. Drink 2020-2030- 94

Cool climate notes shine through. Soft, round and subtle. Very attractive with crushed flowers, and relatively soft tannins complete what is an excellent package

Great fruit for a 1998. Shorter finish.

Everything I hate about new world wine wrapped into one package. Terrible! This was a gift, should have regifted it. CellarTracker says value $78, I would be pissed if I paid $20 for this. At 8 years old the oak is still screaming and alcohol is way out of balance.

LOVE! Surprised not rated higher. It’s a perfect cab. Pricey though (~$70). Summed up nicely by WE: Cabernet Sauvignon (88%) takes the lead on this wine, with the balance Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah. Aromas of blackberry, blue fruit, flowers and barrel spice are followed by pitch-black-fruit flavors. Lightly chewy tannins provide some heft but have room to broaden.

Fantastic wine. Lots of fruit, some leather. Beautiful nose and a really nice wine. Our 4th bottle of the night, one of the best so far.
