Aged for 16 months in 25% new oak barrels, this wine displays all the right notes of that exposure and is not overblown. Only three barrels of this wine were made - some 60 barrels - and it hits 12.9% abv. It is praised as an elegant wine, the kind Pinot Noir lovers love to love. Medium dark, this medium weight wine shows a nose of cola, black tea, orange peel and spices. The palate is smooth and almost silky. The tannins are just enough and the acidity is perfect. Tart berries, tea notes and spice flavors all play in harmony. The wine is smooth without laying down, exciting without being boorish.

Now all I need is six more bottles buried in a cave under the driveway for the next 10 more years.

This beauty needed but a few moments to mellow into subtle charmer. All the attributes you love from a Sonoma Coast Pinot. Had it with simple done pork chops and held up nicely. A true joy to drink.

it’s been a few months since we’ve opened a bottle. our smallest pinot noir bottling to date. impressive and singing right now. stunning really. the flavors have developed into a symphony of elegance and energy. wish we made more, but Mother Nature set the rules in 2015!

Lovely Pinot Noir. Just the kind of quality wine we’ve come to expect from Smith Story.

Our New Release. 100% Destemmed then a cool & slow fermentation. 4 barrels made, 18 months in french oak, one new, 3 in older used Burgundy. Our first Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is a beauty.

Quite closed needs 24h to open up. Really well made! Yes CA fruit but stylistically made in the Burgundy tradition so low 13.5%. Spicy. Hint of cherry but mostly dark berries. Needs many more years too young in my opinion.
