Sineann
Sauvignon Blanc
Oregon based winemaker, but wine he made in NZ. Bought at winery in US. Yellow green, excellent clarity. Slight mercaptan stink on initial pour, with a touch of floral and pineapple aromas underneath. Just enough acidity, lemon and pineapple flavors, some skin astringency on finish. Drinkable, but getting past its peak, I suspect. See my earlier tasting notes for a benchmark; citrus and lactic notes have receded somewhat, or at least the mandarin flavors have receded while grapefruit and lemon remain.

Oct 19th, 2020Revisiting this vintage, last bottle. Pale yellow, sparkling clarity. Tropical fruit, citrus notes on nose (pineapple, orange or Meyer lemon). Lemon, mandarin orange pith flavors with creamy lees finish, tart lime aftertaste, at least initially. Hint of straw. Grapefruit pith emerges in the finish after an hour.

Oct 1st, 2019Purchased at their Oregon winery. Pale yellow with a golden tinge, excellent clarity. Pineapple and herb notes in nose. Pineapple, herb and lemon-orange flavors, creamy lees finish, light to moderate skin astringency. Mandarin orange and slightly mineral aftertaste. Good acidity, rounded mouthfeel. Tasty fruit forward style but no discernible cat’s pee note if you expect that from a Marlborough Sauvignon blanc. Intensity of fruit flavors change over time, with orange-mandarin flavors receding somewhat after two hours.

May 3rd, 2015Lots of herbaceous grassy notes. Almost a little celery or green pepper on the nose. The palate carries the grassy green pepper on the tongue. Although this is from Marlborough, it is very smooth and calm.

Nov 12th, 2014A tad over the hill but still showing pretty well. Typical grass and citrus nose with some wet stone thrown in. Acid had mellowed quite a bit but still some lime zest, passion fruit and a touch of salinity. The finish was chalky and well balanced.
