Les Fournaux Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Pinot Noir

A little stewy. Possibly picked over ripe. Enjoyable enough with wild Mallard and a Chianti Classico reduction sauce. But not top level Bize.

Out of the gates, the blockiest wine of the night. Very stubborn aromatically, but the palate does offer notes of black cherries, blackberries, and sous bois. Medium-bodied with fine tannins, excellent focus, and a highly saline finish. Certainly needs time to blossom.

I’m guessing this needs more time. Not super expressive right now. Easy enough to drink. I’ll wait a few years for the next bottle of 4.

Drinking tight upon opening great texture though.
Pretty terrible weather for 2012. Early budding followed by hail and vine disease. Harvest was down -70% 2 weeks of warm weather in september saved remaining healthy grapes. Little juice and thick skins for remaining grapes made for miraculous wines. - bize
Not much fruit on nose or palate. All earth, grit and funk. 🙂🌲🍂🥀🍂

11 years in and things have developed beautifully. Still that Savigny light touch but with more gravitas. Beautiful fruit. Ditto acidity.

On a Bize streak... this is vinified destemmed due to rough vintage and hail but drinking more expressive at the moment with the smaller selection of healthy grapes.😘🍷

Needs 7-10 years.
