Silverado Vineyards
Estate Grown Mt. George Vineyard Merlot
In Napa Valley's Stags Leap District sits a rocky peak with a Mediterranean-style stone winery perched on top, which is the iconic Silverado Vineyards, established in 1981 by Ron and Diane Disney Miller. Merlot vines are rooted in the foothills of an ancient volcano, Mt. George. Aromas of black fruit and spice. The wine has flavors of currant, blackberry and sweet cacao and herb notes with bright soft tannins. Lingering finish ending with oaky tones. Nice.

Oct 24th, 2017Dirty Ruby in color with a brick rim.
On the nose, blackberries, blueberries, plums, cherries, smoke, licorice, oak, vanilla, spices and peppercorn.
Medium Plus in body with medium acidity and nice legs.
Dry on the palate with cherries, strawberries, plums, olk, vanilla, tobacco, licorice, spices and black pepper.
Medium finish with fine-grained tannins and peppercorn.
This is a nice Merlot, but much better with food. Not one to be sipping on by itself. Unbalanced, with too much acidity for the fruits. It needs to chill in the bottle for another 2 years.
This Single Vineyard, Merlot, is disappointing, especially for the $35 price tag. Unfortunately, I didn't have the luxury of time, so it might not have been opened enough. I might need to give it another try.
14.6% alcohol by volume.
