Opens with juicy sarsaparilla/cola hit that after a couple hours settles (bigger decant next time) savoury finish.

Now is the perfect time to experiment with wine and food matches. And there are so many online resources out there to help you. Let me inspire you...

How about a nice juicy steak and some Barossa Valley Shiraz? But not just any steak, this charcoal grilled sirloin 🥩 is smoothered in miso butter 🤤

This wine & food match comes via the Wine Selectors 2020 Chef & the Cellar Calendar collection which I was lucky enough to receive a sample of (thank you!). This initiative from Wine Selectors includes 12 wines for the year and 12 matching recipes from each of the winery restaurant chefs.

For August we have this Schwarz Wine Co 2017 Barossa Valley Shiraz. The matching recipe is from Chef Ryan Edwards of Vino Lokal.

Here are Mr Spittoon and my thoughts on the wine:

Deep red plum colour in the glass. While the nose is overflowing with vibrant fruits and sweet spice. In fact it made me think of a freshly baked berry pie 😋. In the mouth it has good tannin structure, quenching acidity and lovely flavours of black peppered plums. More please!

This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

Rich plummy barossa red. Exactly what you want for style without too much of the heat or syrupy sweet that ruins barossa reds

Dark ruby red in color. Cassis and tobacco aroma. Earthy and spicy. Medium body, but a short finish.
