Schramsberg Vineyards
Methode Traditionnelle Brut Blanc de Blancs
North Coast, California, USA
Jack and Jamie Davies revived the historic vineyards and cellars in 1965. Today, their son Hugh, continues their mission. 100% Chardonnay pale straw color with aromas of stone fruits, floral and citrus notes. A terrific crisp sparkler with crisp apple, peach and lemon flavors, fine mousse with tiny bubbles. Tangy acidity on a long finish ending with a yeasty creamy character. Nice!

Jan 6th, 2018While chatting with winemaker and proprietor, Hugh Davies, I asked him what he thought about zero dosage, extra brut sparkling wines. He told me that his wines have more than enough acidity due to cooler maritime climate, after tasting the Blanc de Blancs I'm inclined to agree. A shift in the 1.0g/L dosage would indeed result in a wine that is too austere. This 2012 is superbly balanced, with sappiness and weight at the core balanced by pent-up acidity and notes of lemon pith, saline, ginger, and brioche. Sample
