Schild Estate
Barossa Valley Merlot
On our recent stay at Melbourne Airport’s Park Royal Hotel we dined at their Airo restaurant (it was divine!) and I couldn’t go past this bottle of 2015 Schild Estate Merlot from the Barossa Valley. It was a bit expensive at $60 a pop, but that’s to be expected at an airport hotel restaurant. It went well with my beef curry and Mr. Spittoon’s steak.
In the glass it’s a lovely ruby red. On the nose it’s wonderfully fruity with lots of plums and cherries alongside hints of spice and cacao. In the mouth it’s über smooth with wonderful balance, subtle tannins and a lovely length finish. Cracker way to start a holiday 👌

Burgundy color with slightly heavy brown note. Sweet nose of opulent dried apricot, ripe grapes, hot but round spices, some pinot-noir-like wet mushroom, touch of raspberries and cedar wood, and anise. Taste simply confirms the notes of noses with some more creamy vanilla, caramel, and sugary fruit. Aftertaste of some bitter zest, touch of chocolate, herbs, low tannins and ready to drink now. A nice smooth treat and high quality merlot, especially at this price range.
