The 2014 Jimmy Watson winner, and what a ripper it is. Needed a decant and a good splash to open up and reveal all the blue and black berry fruit and spice that made this such an enticing wine in its youth. Elegant, savoury and delicious!

Wow! What a nose.
Strong smells of roasting blackberry jam, on a slice of sourdough.
Heavy handed, with all your classic dark fruits, with a little bit orange ones thrown in, mostly that shows through in the acidity. Dried persimmons, allow this wine to finally rest.
Yum.

A dominant figure in the glass, dark and handsome. Almost bipolar nose & palate Luscious and silky.

Not sure if I decanted this too long. Thought it might have more cool-climate elegance and spice

Dark Ruby with Purple rim. Aromas of Mulberries and dusty cherries with low oak influence finishing with soft tannins and medium intensity. Steve Pannell is a master of alternative varieties in Oz like Tempranillo Touriga and Nebbiolo but here he addresses his talents to Syrah in the Adelaide Hills and does a great job as usual. Won the Jimmy Watson Trophy in 2014 in Melbourne.

A look at the 2014 Jimmy Watson winner, elegance stands out here. Lovely red fruits and a gorgeous slippery mouthfeel. Hint of pepper and spice, all things nice.

Jimmy Watson winning beauty here. Adelaide Hills style Syrah. The layers are perfect. Such depth of fruit yet it's not blousy or overdone. Pannell is knocking them dead with every thing he touches. This is bordering on perfection. So drinkable but years in the dungeon will do it no harm at all.

Benefits from a good decant, tasted better the second night - a bit leaner. Fine tannin, medium bodied, peppery cool climate lovely. Liked this much more than last time .. Maybe my taste is maturing :)
