Double aerated through vinOair & Vinturi into decanter then sat for about an hour. Concentrated dark berry fruits, tar and black licorice dominate.

This 2006 is 100% Syrah. A bit of cheesy funk on the nose clears and the wine pours slightly browning and cloudy. Nice balance between acid, fruit, and tannin...no noticeable alcohol, notes of ripe mountain berry and tart cranberry. Better food companion than I expected. Nice weight and long finish,

Another wonderful wine from Justin Smith. Probably a year or two past peak - has lost some of the intensity without quite enough secondary components to fill in the hole - but has great aromas of dried blackberries, a touch of menthol, and sweet tannins leading to an integrated, balanced wine with a lingering finish.

(As an aside, the 2006 is 100% syrah)

I've had a number of Saxums, this might be my favorite.
