An inky nose with savory notes and an intense purple stony note. Very contained and punchy. cool flavors with intensity. Good balance given the sheer size of the wine

Friend brought this to dinner, painfully young but shows immense promise. One of the great CA syrah wines IMO, this needs time but its depth and compact mature will ony improve. Massive and brooding right now.

Love these guys @Joe Lucca @Shawn R @David L as part of the Wine nerd herd and we get together ever so often

About to post more wines that are from the event

We met last week at Iowa and had a blast

This is not a picture of the wine but we enjoyed the Saxum in a mag with a great dinner at 801 chop house

To the next tine gents - drink well and miss you already

Perfect prime rib wine. Alrqdy developing some nuance beyond the dark blackberry core and vanilla that are so characteristic of this wine. Starting to become very Rhone like (chapoutier or guigal in the sense that it is definitely modern in style and abundant with sweet oak)... merry Christmas

Really enjoyed this. Was pretty sloshed at this point and yet it still stood out.

I got the pic via search and I think it's from @Richard Steinberg cellar tracker notes consistently identify a "spritzy" quality to this wine on the pop and it was absolutely there. I'm curious as to where this comes from because I have also seen it repeatedly on the '05 Clos Des Papes. Anyway, the spritz detracted a little as it was still there, although less pronounced after 1.5 hours in the decanter. However the wine was not compromised. Tannins are resolved. Fruit still there but it's no longer very vibrant. A good not great wine. Saxum can do little wrong in my eyes but this '04 is on it's denouement. Drink now.

Great length, dark fruit, earth, blood and iron, and despite its depth and richness, a nice beam of acid.

In a great spot right now. The Syrah has softened and the Grenache has opened up!
