Dec 22nd, 2024A new tasting experience on several levels. Had never heard of or tasted this grape varietal, Schioppettino. I was looking for a lighter red off the menu at Settimo, Guy Grossi’s new Brisbane venture. Chosen purely because of its location in Friuli ie. cooler climate. The Somm was in the dark but the wine ended up being a revelation. Red cherry and cranberry - intense white pepper on nose and palate. Dried red florals. Love this style. Will be on the lookout for this Cuvée in the future.

Jul 15th, 2023Schioppettino from 2010. Beautiful, elegant aroma of fresh flowers and light pepper. Sweet fruits. Iron. Medium-bodied. Tart blackberries, anise, with slightly bitter finish and light tannins. Intriguing and graceful. There is a lot more going on here than I can describe now. To think this grape almost died for good...

Feb 10th, 2021The 2009 Schioppettino from Ronchi di Cialla is simply fabulous. Pretty aromas of dried red berries, smoke, crushed stones and dried florals all come together and soar from the glass. It shows remarkable elegance and refinement, with a beautiful silky texture that frames the the seamless finish. Outstanding now.

Quick to open. Darker fruit, herbaceous character, peppery but softens with time. More introspective than flashy. Not a long finish, but some persistence nonetheless. This estate rescued this grape!!
