Although so much better than the base tier, this is still like freshly hewn wood. Still, not undrinkable and not overboard on the vanilla and caramel, which is good (especially given how oaky the Chard is).

Deep faintly translucent garnet color and full body. Blackberry fruit with hints of anise and tobacco leading to s smooth peppery finish. Tannins have softened and dissipated, so this wine may be coming towards the end of its best drinking window.

Has the incredible body and structure Rombauer is known for. Acidity balances well with focused, forward fruit and hints of caramel.
