Robert Stemmler Winery
Estate Grown Carneros Pinot Noir
Tawny red in appearance. Candied cherries on the nose and some menthol. Medium tannins (5/10) and medium bodied. Layered palate with dried cherries, a touch sour, herbs, menthol, twigs and an odd aftertaste. Medium plus bodied. Drink now if you have any.

1 person found it helpfulJan 19th, 2014I'm usually not a fan of Carneros PN -- I usually find them a bit flabby and lifeless* -- but this is nice. Nose has ripe, almost stewy, sappy cherry, moist graham cracker, worm casings, and some minerality. More minerally in the mouth, there's some nice, laid- back fruit. Less acid and structure than I would like, but, hey, I'm the one who decided to buy a Carneros PN.
* Carneros is to Pinot Noir as Lodi is to Zin. I don't usually buy Lodi Zin either, "old vine" or no.

I remember thinking there was something off about this one, but I really couldn't put my finger on it. Poured a dusty rose into the glass and sort of had a similar type of floral raspberry nose as well. The entry of this one was a little subdued. Tart cherry cola and a little bit of fig and some sort of roasted nut character in the middle. Finish was a little flabby. Not much experience with this producer. I would say one could hold half of these bottles in the hopes it might improve over the next year or two, but I fear it is probably on the way out therefore probably best to drink now.

May 4th, 2017Better than the last bottle I had a few months ago. We're not reinventing Pinot, here, but it's got a nice nose and palate of burnt strawberries topped in Carmel. Great acidity. All that for $30 leaves no room for complaining.

Mar 21st, 2017Nice safe Pinot- a few years in the bottle has helped it out. Cool purple/ruby color with a nice balance of fruit and earth. Medium. For $28 it's a good deal.
