How awesome are these older Mondavi reserves? If you haven’t had one of these wines and you enjoy Cali wines, this is historical evidence of a time long ago. No fruit bomb here. In fact, I imagine the fruit was still well balanced in the beginning to interact easily with the cocoa, menthol and clay/amphora notes.

This was my last bottle of this wine. 24 years old. I know some people like the old style but it isn’t my favorite. Not flawed, just old. Would have been better sooner. In Austin, had BBQ at Franklin’s...best smoked brisket I’ve ever had. Stood in line for nearly two hours so ordered two pounds and over ate at 2:30. Skipped dinner and went back to the hotel to have this Mondavi.
