La Pira Barolo Nebbiolo

Feels about the right drinking window w 12 yrs post release; fairly translucent rose/ brick red, supreme leather & dried roses on nose, balanced tannins & full yet soft on palate. Overall balanced affair, drunk out of limited stemware with a large bday party contingent so imagine would notice much more in quieter circumstances

Blood sausage, black pepper, licorice and bright, tart fruit. Needed an hour but evolved over the next six hours. No rush to drink.

Day 2. High tannins. Good acidity. Well balanced.

Juicy red cherry, red plum, fresh blueberry, blackberry, game, leather, lavender, violet, rose, tobacco, barnyard/Brett, compost and stone. Elevated/high acidity with tart cherry and tomato. Grippy tannins as always, long finish, high intensity.

Had this in July and also at Emporio in nyc. This makes the case for drinking a Barolo early. A really lovely wine. Lots of dark fruit and floral aromatics.

Absolutely stellar. Showing maturity with some sweetness and spiciness, but still bright and fruity, the best Barolo by far I’ve had this year. Happy accident of timing the age perfectly. Kept overnight, a little weaker day 2 but still top notch.

Hints of tar and smoke on the tongue, an unbelievable aroma in a deep glass. Could *possibly* use another year or two in the bottle.

A great Pira by Roagna ! Very fine and complex indeed, elegant nose of crushed flowers and a medium bodied mouth, fine and velvety tannins, high and balanced acidity and crushed roses and violets. Tremendous potential and also fairly accessible now if decanted 60 minutes before drinking. Enthusiastically recommended !!
