Palate is supple, richly textured and full of suave tannins that have a youthful edge to them. Deeply fruited, very accessible at the moment, some VA kills the aromatic character for me, hiding some nuances that are just perceptible.

Dark purplish ruby red. Rich nose coated with tobacco, purple flowers, black currants, cocoa and anise. Medium plus tannins (6.5/10) and full bodied. Rich and layered with cinnamon, vanilla, blackberries, herbs and cassis. Long finish. Drink till 2028.

One of our favorite under $80 bottles.

This was a +$100 bottle we had after tasting 4 bottles at collective cost of $36.47 at last night’s blind tasting. Call this like something from the Drops of God.
Extremely wonderful, if not as good as I have ever had….

Cigar box and assorted black and blue berries. Much better than the last time I had this vintage. Nice QPR.

Fun to drink side by side with the Caterwaul - both ‘16s. Preferred this ever so slightly. Absolutely delicious.

This is extremely good. Lovely fruit and a plush velvet texture. Sadly my last bottle of the 16.

You know, when I coravin’d this last night, I thought the tannins were pretty strong and dominant. Today, I opened this up and coravin’d 2016 napa cabs from hunnicutt and quivet for a blind flight. Surprisingly, I thought this was very accessible and tasting the best currently. The quivet was the softest and also drinking nice. It tasted like a mike smith wine but less fruit forward than the majority of his wines. The hunnicutt was pretty powerful and I think needs some time or decanting. It will be really good.
