This smokes! First time trying a Ridge Syrah. Dense, liberally oaked, but so harmonious and complete. Black and blue cooked fruit, lifted floral aromas. The meaty and peppery elements were there, but very subtle. I wish more CA wineries in this price bracket used American oak as tactfully as Ridge does.

Very much like a southern Rhone. Loads of meat, potted soil, black fruit. Harsher tannins and alcohol but still great stuff.
