Youthfully delicious! Pop ‘n poured. 55% Carignane, 26% Zin, 19% Mataro. 100% really old vines. Zingy nose features all manner of crisp, ripe berries, as well as a whiff of American oak and iodiney minerals. Deep fruit but focused and balanced (really nice acidity) in the mouth. Drinking great now, this will certainly last and possibly improve for the next five years. (Bandol the dog is glad I’m enjoying it but remains skeptical of new world wines.)
UPDATE: Even better on night 2. Deeper and showing amplified saline stoniness.

Jul 1st, 202554% Carignane 26% Zin, 20% Mataro. Popped and poured. Gorgeously zingy Carignane dark cherry and blackberry Zin fruit combine but are going mano-a-mano with American oak coconutty scents. Perhaps that’ll integrate with air. On the palate there’s beautiful fruit/acid/tannin balance. Nicely concentrated. Should be really good with pasta con broccoli rabe.
UPDATE: This was a hair better on night 2. The oak had settled down a bit and the beautifully pure fruit was out front in the limelight.

Intersting expression of Evangelho. Despite low % new, i did find the Am. oak intrusive and seemed to mask the high toned floral side of the vineyard. Structure was well polished, fine tannin, a touch too much here from a site that, to me, its best expressed naked. Young of course, still crushed pizzas and went down easily.
