Deep purple color with youthful pink on the rim. Deep berry and plum smell; delicious deep berry and cherry taste, strong but smooth tannin; little to no astringency; light mineral quality as well. Very enjoyable, if not a gulp-after-gulp wine.

Abundant raisin, acid more prominent on the palate, plum, flowers, call me nuts but kind of reminds me of young nebbiolo? Petroleum, cola finish. Quite a marriage of opposing flavor profiles. Great fluidity and vision.

May 3rd, 2023My exception to the rule on Merlot! Beautiful wine. Vibrant, fruity, raisins, notable acid. Structured body, smooth finish. Was great now, but curious how it would drink after another couple of years.

Oct 30th, 2017Earthy mushroom and cherry-berry bouquet. Tasting: Mostly cherry--a splash of blackberry, black tea, with limestone and oak on the finish, the latter sweetened a bit by the fruit. Well balanced tannins. In general, I am not a fan of straight merlot--and this bottle has not changed my opinion, but Ridge knows how to make it elegant.
