Wholecluster aromatic is a dead ringer for Gonon Iles Feray. Not as fresh on the palate as desired. Extremely stylish although not with enough delicious character.

We were so fortunate to have Jeff Brinkman, Rhys’ winemaker for the past 15 years, join our tasting of nine Rhys Syrahs from 2003 - 2013. Menthol cedar violet

This is in an awesome spot. Has developed complexity in the bottle that shows on pop and pour. Incredible nose with dark smokey fruit and leather leads to a palate of great texture with rust and garrigue notes. Continues to expand and develop over an hour.

Surprised to find Brett in this bottle, some redeeming plush fruit but overall muted with metallic finish

Not all Rhys are cellaring as well as this one. Drinking well now, has several more years to go.

Fruit is muted but still present, under ripe blueberry, blackberry and present raspberry and dried tomatoes, dry aged beef as well as raw meat, vegetable qualities of dried Italian herbs. a very haunting wine that makes me think with each sip that pass my lips. I want more soon!

Imagine a great Cote Rotie, Cornas, and a Cal Syrah step into a bar. The atmosphere is all French but the ‘Mercian makes it interesting and overblown with too much density. It was spectacular, but if it were a bit more reserved, and didn’t stain my Riedel, it would have been on another level.
