I have been fortunate enough to recently sample the 2013 and 2014 editions of this wine over the past several months from my personal collection. A deeper shade of purple than the ‘In The Rocks’ the 2012 ‘Foothills Reserve’ shows menthol tones that combine with shades of cigar box, blackberry compote, and bacon fat tones that all take shape in the glass. The palate is very elegant with a light vein of salinity that runs through the core of dark fruits alongside, citrus rind, flinty and minty undertones. The length and elegance of this wine is apparent as this is drinking beautifully now and has another five plus years to go. Drink 2020-2025- 94

The 2017 ‘Foothills Reserve’ Syrah is a simply magical new wine by Matt Reynvaan. The nose takes on highly hedonistic tones, showing beautiful range from orange zest to Umami to bacon fat and roasted dates with fresh sage that all collide in the glass. Silky smooth on the mid-palate the wine unveils a remarkable depth and salinity. The elegance here is extraordinary with a sensational mouthfeel. Hoisin sauce, blood orange, bulls blood and Umami with wild blackberry cobbler flavors all combine marvelously in the glass. The exceedingly long finish lingers long on the palate. Drink 2019-2033- 96

The 2014 'Foothills Reserve' is an absolutely incredible Syrah that shows tremendous promise for this acclaimed vintage. This inky colored, opaque wine begins with intoxicating aromatics of red cherries and blackberries woven together with Unami, wet stones, white pepper and smoked brisket all taking shape in this majestic red. On the palate this demonstrates deep layers of concentrated flavors with Mandarin orange rind, red cherry, red raspberry, creosote and seaweed notes all leaving an impression. The poise, tension and mouthfeel of this wine is simply amazing and I can see this improving even further with some additional time in bottle. Drink 2019-2030- 97

The 2016 'Foothills Reserve' is an absolutely phenomenal wine that is truly one of the most compelling wines from Washington State. The nose takes on an incredible range of aromatics, from blood orange, to charcuterie to black fruits and olive tapenade which constantly bring you back to the glass for more. The palate shows remarkable freshness and intensity as flavors of Asian spice, Hoisin sauce, black tea, blackberry pie and wet stone characters all come to play. There is a seamless quality to this wine that glides through the palate showing wonderful freshness and and lift as it enters the highly refined finish. Outstanding now, however I expect this wine will cellar marvelously over the next decade.Drink 2019-2029- 96

Black cherry, blueberry, savory, smoked meat. Funky but in a good way. Bacon, pepper and violet. M acid, tannin and body. Minerality. Balanced, structured and a long finish. This wine is fantastic value. If I were to blind taste it I would call it Northern Rhone. Fantastic.
