Les Santenots Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir

Nose a bit quiet out of the gates. Dusty black cherries so far but so much is buried under that. Some plum, licorice and spice emerge and that black fruit of character if 2016 is there big time. Palate is magnificent if a bit tightly clenched at the moment. There is greet finesse and purity to the black cherry and mineral flavors. Velvety tannins and terrific acids bring home the juicy sweet black fruits buffered by brilliant minerality. Lovely persistence and waiting to say so much more but all the parts are there. Needs maybe 5 years.

Smoking wine. I love 14 here. Vibrant nose. Lively and deeply fruited with a nice background of serious mineral. Super beautiful fruit. Really Volnay. Juicy and wonderfully pure with terrific fruit on the redder side. Big tannins but very elegant and long suggest a long life ahead. Beautiful wine. So balanced. So elegant. Classic. Revisit in 10 years.

Candied red fruit and orange peel, a bit of fresh sawdust and baking spice. Licorice and a touch of plasticene. An almost unctuous mouthfeel with great acidity and fine tannins. Will be great in a decade. If any of us survive the next four years.

Pascal Bouley 2014 Volnay 1er Cru Santenots - Very feminine and pretty. Good firm tannins and power but still sultry and sweet. Firm. Needs 5-7 years.

Perfectly balanced. I couldn't want for more.

Very sophisticated aromas. Terrific acidity. Ripe and elegant. Candied. Sick palate. Intense. Very big. Terrific concentration.
