Clos Saint Landelin Vin d'Alsace Riesling

A compelling and food-friendly Riesling, leading with classic petrol notes and nicely balanced citrus and green apple with a salty beach breeze in the mix. Dry and crisp with a pleasant acidity.

2008 Clos Saint Landelin Riesling; oxidative apples, lime-like acid, almost aged Chenin-esque. Growing on me by the sip.

Red apples and lemon zest. Medium plus acidity and lots of minerals.

2007 Rene Mure Riesling from the warm 'Clos St. Landelin' Grand Cru site in Alsace...aromas of orange peel and mint, acidity more integrated now. Clay-limestone soil adds chalky grip and texture. Powerful and austere. Steamed white fish with a lemon cream based sauce.

This laser sharp Riesling begins with aromas of slate, rubber ball (the kind in the quarter machines), petrol fumes, lemon, thyme, and white flowers. Flavors dance from sour kumquat to red apple to white pepper. It’s bone dry, direct, linear, and tightly wound. It might, I think, benefit from 3-4 more years in cellar. The acid will challenge. It did for me, but on day three I felt it had mellowed and settled a bit. A good wine for the very very thirsty.
