René-Jean Dard & Francois Ribo
Hermitage Syrah
So much juicy juicy goodness. Incredibly chuggable given its soft fruit and refreshingly brisk tannin. A more shouldered and deeply structured Crozes in some ways. Still not convinced that one should ever age a D&R syrah, so much life and deliciousness when young. Caught this a stage where some tertiary development was occurring, but a slightly progressed hue makes me think it would be difficult to keep alive for years on. Cherry Herring, Chambord, any berry/cherry liquor you can think of, Creme de Violette, Lavender oil, candied black olives, bacon fat, star anise, cinnamon, talcum, some slightly sweaty/meaty notes from a touch of VA, adds to meaty savory quality well. Performing well over hours of drinking.

Jun 26th, 2021Quite approachable already and considering the vintage, not overly alcoholic. However, my guess is that it will benefit from a couple more years in the cellar to find its balance.
