Le Urscele Valtellina Superiore Nebbiolo
This needs 12-24 hours before it really gets there. But it is a stunning wine. Chestnut, roses, melting road tar, floral like crazy, rock and soil tones and so much more and very nuanced. Concentrated and velvety with terrific purity and sappiness. Amazing length but only showing 15% of itself. Such purity but people need patience. Insanely complex wine but my score will go up after this airs out.

Oct 31st, 2022Dried potpourri. Dried tart cherries. Elegant, lean, a little thin. Nice juiciness but a little shy on the nose.

Sep 12th, 2022This will need air and I’ll be back but it has it all. Love it. Chestnut, spice, tree bark, wood shavings and lovely cherry. But smells young. Juicy, sleek and textured but tons of acid and tannins. Lovely tangy and intense fruit on the finish. Complex and long. Very very pure. Needs maybe 2-3 hours I will be back. Love the old school vibe yet how clear and clean it is. Nose has more smoke and mesquite now. So so good. Elite levels of spice. So juicy and complete. Awesome old school earthy sweetness. Long. Lingering.
9.3 to 9.4 overnight. Ethereal, complex and wonderfully velvety today.

Gorgeous nose of mixed fresh and dry roses. Some licorice. Maybe anise? Very floral and high toned. Gorgeous Nebbiolo aromas that are highly refined. Stunning clarity to the aromas. Terrific cherry fruit and uncanny freshness and complexity. Ripe, sweet tannins and wonderful “pop!” Red as they come and so bright but also sappy and long. Ripe and juicy tannins. Super impressive wine. Can’t believe I sold this for $25 a bottle. Gotta raise the price.

Jan 18th, 2018A confounding wine. Super light, ethereal side of nebbiolo. Had with beef sugo pappardelle, and the dish overwhelmed this wine. Day 2 the wine picked up some tannin and was better. Thinking this will improve as it ages.

2 people found it helpfulNov 23rd, 2020Fresh late season cherries, some raspberries and mulberries. Some spice, it started out roses, some violets, and the menthol note is grown big. Tannins, very woody-flavored tannins, along the roof of the mouth. Tannins recede and cherries grow over a few hours. It’s a light, elegant wine in the prime of its life. It was like $28. I’d hold on to a lot more of it. I love nebbiolo. Drank it watching the chi.

2 people found it helpfulApr 15th, 2020This wine needs LOTS of air to start showing its true colors. So these are day 2 notes. Light color. Delicate nose shows macerated cherries, rocks plucked from a mountain stream (replete with that vaguely biologic water vegetation note) and dried rose petals. The palate shows a soft cherry candy fruit and silky texture, with subtle minerality. Distinctively delicate.

UPDATE: On night 2 (with just the cork as a closure), it was tolerable. Some weak cherry fruit poking through, but still unacceptably thin. Still thinking this must be a flawed bottle.
