Coteaux d'Ancenis Trait Gamay
I can’t figure out the nose of this, but it’s wild. Sugared, syrupy, miso (?!) and licorice distilled into something you might pour over shaved ice. The palate is mild, but complex. There’s not a small amount of tannin in this, which gives it a grippy, pleasant finish that’s much longer than I would have guessed. No fruit really, maybe some blackberry, but more on the earthy musty and even tart side (it’s not acidic, but sits on my tounge in the strangest way.) very cool, very weird. Loved.

Nov 15th, 2018It was dark floral at first but later started tasting bandaid-y, which was interesting but got a little overwhelming near the end of my first class. Certainly a unique wine.

May 11th, 2017Blackberries, blueberry compote, tomato paste, mint, white pepper, charcuterie, game, musk. Rounded acidity/minimal smooth velvet tannin balance, light-medium bodied, juicy-silky texture, earthy smoky gamy finish. Rustic all the way, for those who appreciate the grittiness of natural non-interventionist wine.
